Is 1 Gig worth it for streaming?
More than streaming alone needs: at up to 1 Gbps, a connection carries 40 streams in 4K at the highest published minimum, 25 Mbps, which HBO Max, Apple TV+ and ESPN each publish. In HD (720p) at 5 Mbps, it carries 200. Figures read Sep 2026.

What a speed test does not tell you
A speed test reads one device at one moment. What reaches a TV over WiFi in another room can be less, and the reading can change with the hour. The FCC measures speeds in the peak-use window, weeknights 7 to 11 PM. Test in that window on the device that streams, then wired at the router, and compare. The speed test keeps your readings by time of day. If a reading that should carry the stream still buffers, four questions separate the plan from the WiFi path, the device and the service.

Why does my stream buffer on 1 Gig?
The number is for the connection, not the WiFi in one room. A speed test reads one device at one moment.
